Inspiring learning for a fairer future

We're Making A Noise For Global Citizenship Education

Friday, 10 July 2020 15:33

Since 2014, our work has been funded annually by the Scottish Government. In July 2020, and in collaboration with our fellow Development Education Centres, we've begun to ask MSPs across Scotland to pledge their commitment to us and our work. With your support as constituency members too, we can help to show them how valued and essential Global Citizenship Education is for educators, young people and Scottish society as a whole.

WHAT WE DO AND WHY IT MATTERS

Nationally and internationally, society has never faced such diverse and grave challenges. Scotland has the ambition and opportunity to emerge from these with 'a greener, fairer, more prosperous economy'. And no longer can we decouple our economic prosperity from the poverty experienced elsewhere.

We must invest in a generation of young people equipped with the skills and behaviours of responsible Global Citizenship to face these challenges, encourage and stimulate enquiry into our mistakes of the past and the causes and solutions of the ongoing climate breakdown.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We've been in touch with every MSP across all of the Local Authority areas that we cover, asking for their support in the Scottish Parliament by committing to the future funding of all 5 of Scotland's Development Education Centres.

You can add your support by:

- sharing our social media posts on Twitter and Facebook

- download and share this document detailing what the DECs are asking for

- sharing the video at the top of the page on your own social media accounts and with friends

- emailing your local MSP (find yours here)

- telling colleagues and friends so they can show their support too.
