Inspiring learning for a fairer future

Spring at Highland One World

Its been a busy term for Highland One World. We’ve seen nearly 130 Highland Council Probationers for the second part of their global citizenship training, we’ve been back out to the Western Isles to support teachers there, we’ve delivered training on how global citizenship education can be effectively combined with outdoor learning, supported teachers to explore the current refugee crisis with learners, piloted our very first online course, worked on improvements to our network’s GCE resource website ‘Signposts’ and lots more besides!

One real highlight of this term has been hearing from probationary teachers across Highland about their practitioner enquiry projects. As part of their probationary year, everyone needs to do a small scale action research or practitioner enquiry project, and for the last two years all probationers in Highland have been asked to do one on a global citizenship theme. The diversity and quality of the teaching that has been taking place across the authority has been really inspiring to witness. The enquiries aren’t being presented until June, but we helped the probationers to reflect on the impact of their enquiry on their learners, and on themselves, with some cheery reflection bunting!

There’s always more work to be done, and we’ve got lots of good things coming up next term, from a Scotland-Malawi Partnership schools forum, to another Global Teachers Network to a pilot CPD for early years practitioners. Do get in touch if we can help you with global citizenship in any way – and have a brilliant holiday!
