Inspiring learning for a fairer future

Global Teachers Network

Our Global Teachers Network is a fantastic chance to network with teachers and organisations, share great practice and hear from inspirational speakers. We hold twice yearly twilight meetings for primary and secondary teachers. The next one will be in the summer term.

The first of the new GTN meetings was on 21 June 2016 and featured short presentations by Muriel Murray from Lochardil Primary School about their Rights Respecting School work, and Karen Marshall from Millburn Academy about teaching chemistry through a global lens.

On December 1st 2016, teaching staff from Nairn Academy shared their experiences so far of their school's journey with a whole school approach to global citizenship education, including the start of their new S1 course "Nairn One World".  The primary presentation was given by Siobhan Gibb of Holm Primary School. She shared her experiences of global citizenship education, including her work with her P3 class exploring refugees and rights through the stories of Paddington bear.

On 30 May 2017 we heard from Cat Morton about the fantastic Rights Respecting Schools work happening at Crown Primary, and the global citizenship education taking place at Kinlochleven High School from Rebecca Machin, Headteacher.

On the 5th December 2017, our most recent meeting, we heard from Katie Hanson, Biology teacher at Culloden Academy, on her experiences of global citizenship education in the classroom and her recent trip to Rwanda with Global Learning Partnerships, and from James Cook, QIO for the Northern Alliance, on using picture books to develop Equality, Diversity and Children's Rights across the Broad General Education (3-15).

All teachers who come to GTN meetings will be invited to briefly share something of what you’ve been doing. This could be anything from a good global citizenship resource you have used to some examples of pupil’s work. Tea/coffee and refreshments are provided.

As part of the Global Teachers Network you'll find out about other Global Learning events you might be interested in and receive news on brand new resources to support your teaching.  To sign up to the network please email This email address is being protected from spambots.
